Set in the 1990s, Blue Heron is a semi-autobiographical drama following a Hungarian immigrant family starting over in a small town on Vancouver Island. Their hope for a fresh start is derailed by the disruptive behavior of the eldest son, Jeremy, a quiet yet dangerous threat to himself and others. Despite their love, his mother and stepfather face dead ends from medical and social services, creating growing marital strain. Caught in the middle is Sasha, the youngest half-sibling, whose isolation makes her uniquely observant. Years later, an adult Sasha reflects on her childhood memories, piecing together her past to better understand her brother and the quiet fractures within her family.
