Honky Tonk Blues with John Campbelljohn & Ryan Cook

  • Marigold Cultural Centre 605 Prince Street Truro, NS, B2N 1G2 Canada (map)

$30

Ryan - Blending the nostalgia of classic country music with modern satire, Ryan Cook has developed a progressive sound both traditional and innovative. Leaning on the sounds of Western-swing, Bluegrass, Country and Folk, Ryan's songbook reminiscences heavily on the early hillbilly and folk pioneers. On stage Ryan has toured heavily as a solo performer opening for Country purists like Dwight Yoakam, Rosanne Cash, & Travis Tritt. His acoustic live show combines thumb-picking guitar styles, original folk ballads and vintage Country music from the 1940's and 1950's.

John - Born 1955 in Sydney, Cape Breton, Nova Scotia - blues singer/guitarist/songwriter John Campbelljohn is a multiple award winner. Rolling Stone says, 'The string magic of the front man fascinates!' Blues News Germany says, 'What applied to Neil Young or Joni Mitchell in former times, now applies to John Campbelljohn.' John's been featured on recordings that include Sting, Joni Mitchell, Emmy Lou Harris, Leonard Cohen, Joe Ely & Willie Nelson plus productions by Sony Pictures Television. Rich vocals and distinctive prowess on the slide guitar has made him a favourite at festivals in Canada & Europe. His current album Chin Up is the winner of the 2016 East Coast Music Awards Blues recording Of The Year.
