Jazz Affair unites six unique voices (three females - three males) into a colourful and dynamic whole. Their repertoire is varied and includes jazz standards and popular songs rearranged with a jazz touch. Influenced by Manhattan Transfer and New York Voices, two flagship bands of American jazz, Jazz Affair stands out by its 100% a cappella sound, making it one of the rare professional vocal jazz bands in Canada.
Formed at Laval University in 2009, Jazz Affair made a splash from the start by winning the Concours du Disque at Laval University two years in a row, in 2010 and 2011. In April 2012, the group was chosen for the Harmony Sweepstakes A Cappella Festival in New York where it won two prizes: the prize for best arrangement and the prize for best soloist, awarded to Marie-Pier Deschênes. Since then, Jazz Affair has taken the stage at many events and festivals, such as the Festival de Jazz de Quebec (2013), the Francofolies in Montreal (2013 and 2014), the Montreal A Cappella Festival (2013 and 2014), Sutton Jazz (2016) and the Festival International des Hautes-Laurentides (2017).
Coming out strong with their first album (JAM) which came out in early 2017, the group now aims to find new audiences beyond its native Quebec. A tour in British-Colombia and two conferences in Western Canada are coming on fall 2018. Jazz Affair is now recording its second album (WISHES), which will launch in early 2019.
