Dear friends,
We made it. I am writing this in the warmth of the approaching summer sun and feeling the enthusiasm of a new season. And, I am looking forward to the summer months when we can once again present community performances on our rooftop. I will be announcing those shows soon and I can’t wait to soak in some music and sunshine with you all.
I’m also looking back on our last year as we close out our current fiscal year. We’ve well over double the number of guests we welcome to performances at the Marigold, started new music series like our classical series at St. Andrew’s United Church and our SUBVert series in our lobby that presents local and young talent from across the genres of our music industry. We’ve presented over 100 unique performances to our community in the last year. The enthusiasm for live music is alive and well in Truro.
And soon, we will be announcing our 2025/2026 lineup starting in September. Once again, we’ve worked to bring a wide array of genres, of voices, and identities to our community. You might have seen a couple of big names go up recently—Hawksley Workman in June and Josh Ritter in August. More and more, we are able to attract more notorious musicians into our intimate 208 seat theatre. And now, I want to tell you a bit about why the Marigold is so beloved by Canada’s music industry.
At the Marigold, we are servant leaders. We are here to serve you, our audience and community, but we are also here to serve the wellbeing of the artists who join us. That means giving attention and support to organizing schedules and agreements in a fair and human way. It means providing accommodations and meals so that artists can focus on their performance and providing the best show they can. And it means working with artists in a way that reflects their values and ours so the Marigold is a place of support. Art is labour—it sometimes takes assertiveness and tense conversations, but we believe at the Marigold in working towards kindness, fairness, and clarity. We also believe in standing up for artists, for creativity, and for the serious importance that cultural moments mean to our communities.
And that’s why artists love coming to the Marigold. We are here to serve them. It costs more. It takes more work. But caring for our town’s, province’s, nation’s, and world’s artists is what we’re here for. And that means you, our audience, get the best performances, the best experiences, the best moments together.
Stay noisy. Support local venues. Keep live music alive right here in Nova Scotia’s live music capital.
Don’t forget sunscreen.
